In September 2015 Heidi and Jim Walker reached out to their local neighborhood to see if kids in the area would be interested in learning to row and joining a rowing club at Jordan Lake. Jim competed with the British national team at nine world championships and in both the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games. In the inaugural season during the fall twenty founding team members were welcomed to the sport. By January 2016, thanks to the support of members of the local rowing community, the owners of Crosswinds Boating Center, and a group of founding families, Jordan Lake Rowing Club was established as a non-profit, year-round rowing program primarily for high school-aged students.
